Happy Easter!

He is Risen! We hope everyone had a wonderful Easter weekend. We had a nice weekend as a family! We did a couple of egg hunts, saw the Faberge egg art installment at Rockefeller Center, ate macaroons at the famous Bouchon Bakery (the one in Today show shot), and overall just relaxed.  Thursday Ellasen and Marion dyed Easter eggs. This was the first year I attempted it with her, and she did great!

They turned out great!! So pretty!

Ready to see if the Easter Bunny came!

Finding eggs the Easter Bunny left

Finding her Easter basket

So I know this next part is going like I am bragging, and while I am very proud, I really just want to include it because I want to be able to share it with Ellasen some day. Our apartment complex was having an Easter Egg Hunt in our courtyard. The hunt was supposed to go from 9-10. We got there at 8:50. The egg hunt was already pretty much over. There was no ready, set, go. No order of any kind. Kids just ran out the door whenever they reached the courtyard and found the eggs. There were kids with BUCKETS of eggs. So a hunt that was supposed to last an hour was over before it had begun. Even though we were early, there was really nothing to find. Ellasen was a little sad, but she had just had an egg hunt in our apartment so she was taking it in stride for the most part. She did end up finding two eggs with Daddy's help and a little girl who had a lot of eggs gave her one. So sweet. So she had three eggs, and we decided to head upstairs. As we were heading into our lobby Ellasen said "Before we go upstairs I want to go back out to the courtyard and find a kid who doesn't have any eggs and give them one of mine." Completely unprompted! She only had three eggs! We certainly weren't going to suggest that she give one of them up, but we were so proud of her for making that choice! She said that she was sad when she realized there weren't really any eggs for her to find, and when that little girl gave her an egg it made her feel so good she wanted to make another kid feel good too. Talk about a feather in our parenting hat. We have been talking a lot about underprivileged people this year because we really want Ellasen to appreciate her life and all that she has and we want her to give back when she can. There probably aren't many underprivileged children in our apartment complex, but the message is the same. No matter how little you have it is important to pay it forward when you can. I love this girl to the moon and back. Her heart and kindness inspire me!

Finding one!

Later in the day we took a trip down to Rockefeller Center to see the Faberge Egg art installment. These large eggs were created by various artists and hidden around the city. The object was to find them all and track them with a smart phone app. I think the goal was to be the first to find all the eggs. After the contest was over, all the eggs were gathered up and put on display at Rockefeller Center. The eggs were so cool to see. There were probably at least 100 of them!

 They ranged from the fancy:

to the patriotic:

to the silly:

This one looks just like my dad!

And every thing in between:

Eden and Everly 4 Months

I can't believe the twins are 4 months old already! I know by this time with Ellasen I felt like we were in a really good routine. I know I felt like I was getting back to normal...a new normal anyway. I am slowly, but surely starting to feel that way about the twins. With Ellasen I felt like most days were very predictable at this point in her life. With the twins I feel like some days are predictable and some are just sort of a blur. We are getting more and more consistent every day. This has definitely been a challenge though because we have a four year old who wants to get out and do things so we can't always stay home and keep to the schedule. The girls and I are learning how to adjust to every day life outside of the apartment bubble.
My one goal was to get them sleeping in their crib at least during the day by 4 months. We achieved that goal, and we are super happy about it. The girls still sleep in bassinets at night, but I think that is mostly for our benefit. We each take a baby on our side and if they fuss or need a pacifier we can just lean over. It saves us from having to physically get up in the night, and from fighting about whose turn it is to get up!  We will move them to the crib  at night this month I think. Eden is sick right now so that has slowed us down a touch.
A lot of people have wondered what we do if one baby wakes up and the other is still sleeping. This has been a challenge because waking a sleeping baby is never fun, but we really strive to keep the girls on the same schedule. It is just easier! If one baby wakes up from a nap more than 30 minutes early we try to get them back to sleep. If a baby wakes up within 30 minutes of feeding time we get that baby up. If that baby is content we snuggle and play until the other baby wakes up or it is time to eat whichever comes first. If that baby is really hungry or fussing we wake the other baby up. A lot of the time one baby wakes up first, but is happy about it. Snuggling that one baby by herself is a rare treat so we try to enjoy it. The same things goes for putting the girls down for a nap. If one is very fussy within 30 minutes of a nap time we put her down, but we will keep the happy baby up until nap time. Again, this gives us some one on one time which is really nice! It also gives us a little flexibility to our day. One another note, if both babies are sleeping when it is time to eat we let them sleep. We usually let them go about 30 minutes over. This rarely happens though! The girls aren't going to always do the same thing at the exact same time, and trying to get them to is crazy, and it isn't healthy for any of us. Flexing a little 30 minutes each way might not seem like a lot, but it is enough that both babies are getting their individual needs met without throwing the whole day out of sync. I need rhythm and balance to my life. It keeps me sane! These girls are both really happy, sweet babies. We are so lucky to have them! We just keep enjoying them more and more every day!

Here are some things we notice about the girls together:
*Take three full naps a day and one cat nap in the early evening
*Nurse 6 times a day
*Eat at 7, 10, 1, 4, 7, 10 (give or take 30 minutes)
*Sleep 8-10, 11:30-1, 2:30-4, 5:30-6:15, 8-7 (give or take 30 minutes)
*They smile a ton especially at people
*They can laugh, but don't do it often
*They love their hands
*They love when we read books as a family at night - they especially love when Ellasen "reads" to them
*They are wearing size one diapers
*They are wearing mostly size 0-3 months, some newborn and some 3-6 months
*They are both in about the 3rd percentile for height and weight. (Ellasen wasn't even on the chart at this age!)

Here are some things we notice about Eden:
*She weighs 12 lbs 5 oz
*She gets bored easily
*She loves attention
*She drools constantly!
*She has changed over from a newborn soothie pacifier to a regular pacifier
*She still has reflux
*She loves to snuggle
*She doesn't "talk" as much as Everly
*She hates tummy time
*She hasn't rolled over yet (probably because she hates tummy time)
*She will almost always take a bottle even after nursing
*She is moving all the time when she is awake
*She usually wakes up first from the naps during the day (She is also usually ready to sleep first)
*She is a little bit delayed for her age with her gross motor skills. We might need some PT in the next couple of months. (Her social skills seem perfectly fine)

Here are some things we notice about Everly:
*She weighs 12 lbs 4 oz
*She is our talker - she is always squawking when she is happy
*She can entertain herself for a long time
*She loves tummy time and can roll over
*She won't take the regular paci and only wants the soothies
*She prefers to nurse...she will take a bottle if it is the only thing available, but it isn't her favorite
*She is pretty content most of the time - very laid back baby
*She gets so excited when you smile at her she usually gives you a huge open mouth grin like she is shocked you are talking to her
*She still doesn't love the bath
*She can probably give up her reflux medicine...she seems to be growing out of it
*She usually wakes up first in the morning

We love these girls to the moon and back!

Another Photo Post

We are getting ready to do Eden and Everly's 4 month post, but I wanted to put up a couple of pictures of life at the Griffith house these days...

We had professional pictures taken of the girls recently. The twins were just over 3 months and Ellasen is almost 4 and a half. We love them! It was a really fun shoot, in our apartment here in NYC. We are probably going to use the same photographer in July to take some family photos in Central Park before we move! I actually took the last one of Everly myself with my cell phone! She didn't cooperate during the photo shoot in her blue outfit so I put it back on her and tried to recreate the look. I did some quick editing and I think it turned out pretty well!

Smiles for each other!
