Ellasen's first day of preschool was today. She has been really excited for many months. We drive past her preschool daily, and she always points it out. We had a few tears this morning (from both of us), but she quit as soon as she walked in her class. It may have taken me a little longer. I am kind of mortified because I am NOT a crier. I leave her on a weekly basis for longer than I left her for today; at friends' houses, the daycare at the gym, heck! she used to go to daycare all day every day when I was working full time. I think it was a little more symbolic for me than I thought it would be. She hasn't been a baby in a long time, but walking her into school with her little backpack she looked so grown up! This is the start to what we hope will be a rewarding academic career for her, but it is crazy that my little munchkin is already on this journey.
I think she had a great time. She told me they played outside, had a snack, read a story, sang a song and talked about the number of the day (2). She also told me she made very good friends. When I asked her what their names were she said "I don't know" clearly exasperated with my question (or maybe it was the sheer volume of questions that had exasperated her at that point).
On the first day of school each year I am planning on having her tell me what she wants to be when she grows up. We will see how long she allows this practice to continue. I'll take it while I can get it! It is hard to see here, but she told me she wants to be a farmer when she grows up. She has actually been telling me this for a while...ever since we went to my friend Emily's family farm last summer. Cute.
Love the one of her sitting on the stairs. So cute.
ReplyDeleteYou must be such a proud and emotional Mama! She is so precious and so smart, Rebecca. I know this is the start of a long and productive educational journey for Miss Ellasen.
ReplyDeleteShe is so cute! I can't believe how much older she is looking. It will be fun to see her sometime when we get back. Hope things are going well for you.
