Corn on the Cob

Thanks to my friend Catherine's suggestion we tried corn on the cob with Ellasen tonight. So fun! She loved it! So cute to watch her gnaw on it! Probably only a mom would find this adorable though!

On another note, I realize that for most people (even other moms and bloggers)  two pictures and a video of their child eating corn on the cob for the first time is slightly excessive. This blog is very much my online baby book, a way for me to quickly capture each memory we find funny, silly, precious and amazing. For those of you who are more old fashioned don't worry, I do keep a "paper" baby book as well, but it is not nearly this detailed (thank goodness, think of the poor trees!).  As I look back on this blog I am really glad I included each and every memory in there. So I must warn you: I will continue to be excessive. Feel free to skim, scan or bypass completely!

St. Augustine

Another great thing about being here in Florida is all the great places within in driving distance of Jacksonville. St. Augustine, the oldest city in the country, is just about 30 minutes from where we live. Our little family headed there this past Saturday to have a look around. Since it was so close we didn't have a lot of pressure to see EVERYTHING and we really just took our time and walked around. We did go to the pirate museum (we couldn't take pictures) where they have one of only two actual pirate flags still in existence and the only known pirate treasure chest. Pretty cool! We mostly just walked around the old streets and shops. We had lunch outdoors! We bought fudge and tasted wine. We bought a bottle of the wine we sampled and enjoyed some of it when we got home. Next time we go we want to see some more of the historical sights. We are planning another trip soon!

14 Months

So we don't have our chair down here so there is no way for me to keep up the exact monthly pictures. This is our bed down here and since it is a queen sized one I figured everyone could picture how big she is getting! Just a few short notes about 14 months:

*Ellasen is WALKING! She is getting so good at it too! She can also wave, give high fives, clap, nod her head yes and no, give hugs and kisses, blow kisses and make lots of different funny faces.

*Ellasen  can say probably 25 words, but she is starting to use a few of them appropriately. She can sometimes tell us when she is "done" eating and she always says "done' when we finish a book. She says "uh-oh" when she drops something or when she falls down. She says "num-num" when we are at the grocery store, when she is in the kitchen, when she sees food in a book, when she is in her high chair and when anyone is eating something. She says "gotta go" when we are leaving the house or getting in or out of the car seat. She says "thank you" when she hands you something or when you hand her something. Some other things she can say are: all done, big girl, babies, blue, good girl, up, down, nana (banana), mama, dada, grandma (grama), peekboo (peek-a-boo), hi, baaa (what a sheep says), meow, kuk (quack), baba (sippy cup), hush, no, no-no, yes, wow, oh-wow, bye.  There are more, but these are the ones we hear every day.

*Ellasen is totally off the bottle. She had been taking one (with whole milk in it) before bed every night, but we are bottle free now!

*Ellasen is totally into books. She wants to read the same ones over and over in our laps. Her favorites are Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See?, Goodnight Moon, Colors, Let's go to the Zoo, Hugs for Baby, Good Night Good Morning, Mickey Mouse Club House - Back to the Club House Music Book.

This is a very fun time. Ellasen is always doing something funny or amazing. She is learning all the time and it is so great to see and be a part of. We love being her parents!

Beach Trip # 2

My friend Kate, her two kids, Ellasen and I all headed out to the beach yesterday morning. Ellasen was still not super excited about the sand so she just sat on the towel with me. I made little sand piles on the blanket and gave her shells to play with. She came around a little towards the end...hopefully she will change her mind about sand soon!

I put a little sand pile on the blanket and took off her shoe and sock. If you look at this picture closely she is holding her foot up off the sand. She held it that way for a long time. She wasn't upset, she just didn't want to put her foot in the sand!

The Great Blanket Bandit

Aunt Di made this blanket for Ellasen's dolls, but ever since she got it it has been a favorite. She sleeps with it every night and we keep it in her crib during the day. In other words, we don't let her just carry it around with her all day...it is for sleeping. I put it in the hamper the other day to wash it and she went into her room and dug it out of the hamper and began to run around the house with it. She was laughing and hugging it and she thought it was great fun that I was chasing her!

Uggs!

Ellasen found my Uggs in my closet and decided she had to borrow them...and wear them on her arms!

MOSH

Fridays are half price at the Museum of Science and History here in Jacksonville so Ellasen and I headed into town to check it out. She had a really good time walking around when she was out of the stroller. She loved to watch the fish in the underwater exhibit and to watch the video of a knee surgery. I have never heard so many "WOW's" in one afternoon! So fun!

This turtle was walking around in the animal exhibit and Ellasen thought he was great!
