Photo Catch Up

With my mom leaving I have had a little less time to blog. I can manage to get a photo uploaded to Facebook here and there, but blogging takes a little more time. This post is mostly just a photo dump. Our days are spent nursing and napping and not much else. I am very glad we got to experience so much around the city before the twins arrived because these days we are mostly at home, and the days just sort of run together. I do try to get out when the weather isn't too cold, but for the most part we are all pretty content to stay home and snuggle.

Eden and Everly 1 Month Old!

The girls were one month old yesterday! I can't believe how much our life has changed in the last 30 days. These two girls have fit seamlessly into our family. The girls continue to be great nursers and sleepers. We are so lucky! They eat about every 3 hours during the day and once over night. We are consistently getting two five our blocks of sleep overnight. Well, we would be if Tim didn't have to get up for work, and I didn't have to get up with a four year old! Before the girls were born we arranged for some help every day. I have a friend who is taking Ellasen Monday, Wednesday and Friday for play dates and school, and a mother's helper who comes on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The mother's helper plays with Ellasen and does the dishes and laundry and some light cleaning. Both types of help are so wonderful, and we don't know what we would do without it. Help like this has allowed me to really concentrate on nursing the girls which was a major goal of mine. Here are some things we notice about the girls together and individually.

Both Girls:
*Are nursing 6-7 times a day at the same time
*Take 4-5 naps a day at the same time
*Are growing steadily
*Are still in preemie clothes (Eden will probably move to newborn in a few more days)
*Are still in newborn or preemie diapers
*Have lost their belly button scabs
*Hate baths
*Still sleep in bassinets in our room
*Are starting to turn their heads to loud noises
*Have sensitive skin with a little bit of baby acne

Eden:
*Weighs about 7.5 lbs
*Has some painful reflux like Ellasen did
*Nickname: Baby Monster. This is not very flattering, but she is constantly making grunting noises like a monster. This is because of her reflux, but she grunts all the time even in her sleep!
*Is fussier than her sister. She doesn't deal with being hungry or tired with much grace yet. She also doesn't like getting her diaper changed.
*Still has most of her long black hair. She is getting a little bald spot on the back of her head!
*Makes really funny faces with bug eyes and fish lips
*Is usually wide awake after nursing.

Everly:
*Weighs about 6.5 lbs
*Has reflux where she spits up a lot, but it doesn't seem to bother her much.
*Nickname: Little Old Man. Also, not very flattering, but she does look like a little old man complete with male pattern baldness and a wrinkled forehead.
*Is very calm. Not much bothers her. If she is starving she will cry, but otherwise she is pretty easy going.
*Has kept what little hair she was born with.
*Is a very consistent and steady nurser who falls off asleep when she is finished.

Updates

The twins are really doing great! We have had three weight checks now, and they have been gaining steadily! The girls are officially rocking the preemie chart! Both are well over their birth weight now which means we can let them go in the night without having to wake them up to eat. They are eating about every 3.5 hours during the day (7:30, 11:00, 2:30, 6:00, 9:00 (sometimes we squeeze two feedings between 8-10 PM), and once at night between 2 AM and 3 AM. Tim is so great and gets up with me in the night to help change the babies and bring them to me. This shortens all of our awake time which is so nice! Usually we are up for between 30-45 minutes at night (Gotta love that tandem nursing!) Each baby has a side (Eden on the left and Everly on the right) and that seems to work great! The girls are still pretty sleepy. At the 7:30 feeding they usually go right back to sleep afterwards. After the 11:00 and the 2:30 and the 6:00 feeding we usually give them a little awake time in the swings or bouncy seats or in someone's arms. Their awake time is usually about 15-20 minutes at the most! Eden tends to be a little fussier. She usually wakes up first, she usually grunts during her feedings and afterwards for a few minutes. She also really hates getting her diaper changed or her clothes changed most of the time. Everly is much calmer. She really just goes with the flow. If we don't put Eden down pretty quickly after she eats she gets overly stimulated just like Ellasen used to. Everly will easily fall asleep in someone's arms regardless of the noise or lights in the room. They do pretty much everything together. They eat together and sleep together. When we change one we change both, when we bathe one we bathe both. It makes life much easier! Ellasen is adjusting really well, but my mom is still in town until Sunday. My mom has been getting up with Ellasen in the morning, putting her to bed and doing everything in between! My mom has also been fixing our meals and cleaning the house and doing the laundry. I am still not sure what I am going to do when she leaves, and I think Ellasen is going to have a really hard time with it! I know I have to do it myself at some point, but I think I am in for a rude awakening. When the girls are 1 month old I'll do another post with a picture of them in the rocking chair. I did this for Ellasen during her first year, and it was fun to watch her grow. I'll do that each month for the girls too. Here are a couple of pictures of what we have been up to these last few days.
